The waiting game

I like games! All games! I like soccer, foosball, ping-pong, Quidditch, Sorry, Chutes and Ladders, and a million more! But I do not like the waiting game! And that’s what I am playing now. Woe is me!

Fortunately, I should know early next week whether or not I get an interview. Wish me luck!

Hooray for games!

Bi Hall Stairs

Something I have always wanted to do at Middlebury College is ride down the stairs of McCardell Bicentennial Hall. So when I was working on my application for the Ultimate Mountain Gig, I decided to use that as an excuse to finally ride the stairs. I made some signs — “You”, “Should”, “Hire”, “Me” — and taped them up so that they were visible during the filming and did it! Unfortunately, the lighting was terrible, so I decided not to use the footage in my application video. But still wanted to share it!

Many thanks to Syd for filming and to Olivia and Charlie for the help with the signs!

Submitted!

After 2 and a half weeks of doing almost nothing but work on my application, it is finally finished! And submitted! Unfortunately, submitting it wasn’t as easy as I had planned, but it’s done now, so I can breathe again!

Last night, I put off my computer science problem set—fortunately, I had a free 24-hour extension—and finished the application. I created the images for my resume and worked out the javascript for the popup windows, I checked over the writing sample, and I finished adding content to the rest of the pages on the How Does Macky Mountain? website. Then I went to submit. But every time I filled out step two of the application and submitted, I either got an error saying that I hadn’t included a video, which I had, or got a PHP Zend object. (If you don’t know what that is, don’t worry, the only reason I know is that I understand PHP.) Either way, that was not what I wanted and I got pretty worried because I really would have been bummed if I hadn’t been able to submit my application after working on it so hard.

That's not good

So I started calling …read more

Another day in Shangri-La (Sample Post)

This is my blogging sample for the application.

My snow dance last night worked! I woke up this morning to 24 inches of fresh, beautiful champagne powder!!!!

24 inches of perfection!

Needless to say, I was ecstatic, and after a quick breakfast I headed up the mountain. I decided to go straight to the top and made it to Red Pine Bowl on the first chair of the Ninety-Nine 90 Express. It was amazing. I mean AMAZING! This was powder like I’d never experienced before. It was lighter than any snow I’d ever skied and every run was just one continuous face shot. Skiing powder like this is more like flying than it is skiing, you just float through the snow and often can’t tell the difference between being in the air and on the ground. …read more

Second video edit (and hopefully the last)

Today marks the 13th day I have known about this job and…the 13th day I have worked on my application. And I’m ALMOST DONE!

I just finished up my second major revision of the video based on the feedback I received from quite a few people (thanks everyone!) and I like it. I changed the music and cleaned up the editing. I also changed some of the clips because I was able to get some better interview clips. I still don’t know if the music is the way to go or not, but I think it works pretty well. Let me know what you think!

This video was deleted. Instead, please watch the REAL ONE!

Now it’s time for me to focus on the resume and blog sample. I found out recently that the resume is submitted by copying and pasting into an HTML form, so I can’t include any formatting. So instead, I’m going to include a link at the top of my resume that links to my resume on this website. And it’s not going to be your usual resume, it’s gonna be colorful and interactive and AWESOME! Obviously, I’ll post when it’s finished so you can all go check it out.
